When my hubby and I renovated our kitchen some years back, I really took my time planning it all out. One of the must-haves at the time was a broom closet. I wanted someplace I could hide away the broom and the mop and possibly even the vac. Trying to squish all my wants into my kitchen space was challenging but successful, except for the fact that my broom closet eventually turned out to be an 'everything but the broom closet'. My attempts to keep that area organized was unsuccessful. With that being said, I finally gave in and decided that my broom could be stored elsewhere and I would create more efficient, organized storage in that area.

This renovated storage is in a tight corner, is narrow and has some good height and depth. There is a long lower cabinet and a shorter upper cabinet. It was hard to see what was hidden in the upper shelves (OH! I have three Mr. Cleans and four granite cleaners...who knew!) . I decided a good idea would be to find do-it-yourself pull-out shelving. Lowes had just the item I was looking for. After budgeting for three shelving systems, I ended up with 6 pull-out spaces. Two for pot and pan lids, two for cooking oils, vinegar and hubby and my nutrition system and two upper cabinet shelves housing cleaning supplies, garbage bags and vacuum components.
The actual installation of these pull-outs was very simple and fast. My 13 year old son put together one of the units.
So, if you have the inclination, this is a good solution for your cabinets, to help with home organization as well as help you have easy access to back-of cabinet-items.
