Raw Milk, Free-Range Eggs and Grass-Fed Beef

When our family needs to replenish our home milk supply, which is often, you won't see us at the grocery purchasing our two-plus gallons of milk as we would have in the past.  Instead, we head down to our local dairy farm.

Freedom Hill Farm is a small dairy farm located in Orange County, NY.  They milk their cows twice daily giving us the privilege of having delicious fresh-from-the-cow milk.  Although we live right around the corner and can get fresh milk on a daily basis, consumers travel far distances arriving at the farm with the back of their cars filled with coolers, picking up fresh milk for their dairy co-op.  The members take turns driving for a milk pick-up.  It's a beautiful area and the farm allows for a visit with the cows.  The children thrill at the ability to pet the calfs and get their fingers lovingly licked by their cat-like tongue.  (Bring hand wipes :-)

While you're there, you can also purchase plain yogurt and kefir (which is sort of like a drinkable yogurt). For added flavor, mix in fresh fruit and honey.  You will also find other local farm items such as fresh free-range eggs from the Pierson Farm and various homemade goods such as jams, honey, horseradish, fresh bread (saturday's only), soaps, facial creams and homemade crafts.

Visit their site at http://www.freedomhillfarm.net/Site/Welcome.html to get more information on raw milk and their milk pricing.

Pierson's Evergreen Natural Beef Farm
During your visit, stop in at the Pierson Farm, which is right around the corner!!!!  There you will find a choice of grass-fed beef cuts, fresh free-range eggs, a charming carriage-house craft store and the ability to meet some of their farm animals. Seasonally, you will find a large assortment of flowers, Halloween hay rides, 'a haunted barn' and Christmas trees...just to name a few.   Visit their site at  http://www.piersonsfarm.com/index.htm to get all the details!!!!

So, if you want to have a fun outing, find a day to take a drive to Orange County, NY and support our local farms!!!
